Monochrome Stripes…Timeless Chic

I have always been a girl who likes to inject fairly soothing colour palettes into her wardrobe. I’m normally all about the soft greys, navy and creams, warm beige and browns with the occasional pop of radiant colour when I’m feeling like wearing something bold. However, there is no escaping the fact that monochrome stripes are and always have been effortlessly cool.Worn by countless style icons, from Marilyn Monroe to Bridget Bardot and everyone in between, it’s a timeless look that never loses its chic no matter how you wear it.

In the past I have normally favoured monochrome stripes as a one piece (usually in the form of a cotton top worn with my favourite skinny jeans and ankle boots) but instantly fell in love with this Therapy bodycon midi skirt and coordinating top from House of Fraser. The jersey material gives a generous stretch in the skirt and sits high around the waist which is perfect for comfort and works well with the looser fitting top (which also looks amazing with jeans).

That’s why I love these two pieces. They make a bold statement when worn together but are also super versatile. The skirt looks gorgeously chic with a fitted white shirt, statement jewellery and kitten heels. I risked ordering a size smaller than I normally would as wanted a really fitted look but was pleasantly surprised when they arrived that I didn’t have to shoehorn myself into them thanks to their fabulously stretchy jersey fabric!

I went for a more casual daytime look above by teaming the outfit with knee high black boots and a black biker jacket on what turned out to be a much colder day out in Brighton than I had anticipated when peaking out at the bright blue sky and sunshine that morning. I spent the afternoon huddled around a steaming cup of mint tea and possibly the best burger in town at No. 32 restaurant in Brighton after a very chilly look around the lanes as a result!

Finally though, a break from the icy wind that is proving so brutal at the moment, meant I could shed the jacket and boots for the next set of images and go for a more glamorous look with peep toe heels – perfect if you are looking to style it up from a day to evening look – and worn with Guess sunglasses.

Not to be outdone though, my little boy who had been curiously watching me from the sidelines, decided he wanted to join Mummy in the photoshoot to flaunt his own toddler style…and I think he totally owned it! 🙂

I love, love, love that dress on you! And the rusty fence makes the perfect backdrop. You look so happy with your little man, and he has such a cheeky smile.
