White trousers are one wardrobe staple that simply never go out of fashion and the summer is the perfect time to show them off! They are incredibly versatile and can be worn with pretty much anything whether it be bold statement colours or more classic hues.
Worn right, they can look chic and classy, however, many of us shy away from white trousers as are not always considered as slimming as a darker trouser. I have tried on many pairs of white trousers in my time and it’s true, they can make your legs feel bigger or the fabric maybe too thin and unforgiving showing every lump and bump. Choosing the right pair of white trousers therefore, that flatter your shape, is key. Check out Deborah from Fabulous after 40 for more style advice on how to wearing white trousers that flatter.
I found these great tailored wide leg trousers in Reiss last summer and fell in love with them due to their thicker fabric and flattering mid waist cut. One thing I am not keen on though, is seeing the pocket lining showing through the fabric and even though these trousers were a thicker material, I was still aware of being able to see the pockets, so decided to get them altered by having the lining removed and the pockets stitched up to create a cleaner line. Another tip is to also wear skin coloured underwear when wearing white trousers and to cut out any tell-tale labels that may show through.
Last week we travelled to the beautiful French Riviera for a four day break and so I packed my white trousers for the trip. There are lots of ways to style them but I went for a mix of floral and oriental for this post for the ultimate summer look! Here are my 4 ways to style white trousers:
For the first look, I went with this long sleeved oriental print bodysuit from Zara. I love the detailing on the sleeves and the lightweight fabric felt cool and comfortable. Bodysuits are it seems back in fashion and I confess I don’t think I’ve worn one since the early 90’s(!) but the pants part of the top fitted really comfortably as the fabric was very light and didn’t show through the trousers. I combined the look with a brown leather bag and red patent shoes that I bought in Nice during our break.

This gorgeous kimono jacket is by designer Lolly’s Laundry and is from boutique Bod and Ted in Tunbridge Wells. I wore it with a white vest and accessorised with my sapphire birthstone ball and chain pendant necklace from Catherine Hills Jewellery.
Another Warehouse purchase from two years ago, a lightweight kimono knit again worn with a white vest, birthstone pendant and red patent shoes.
