Grace's 4th Birthday - Planning a Rapunzel Party...!

Last weekend our house was turned into a Princesses Palace for an afternoon in celebration of Grace’s 4th birthday. Grace had originally wanted a Ninja Turtles party (!) but figuring this might make things slightly harder work for all those poor Mum’s to plan outfits for (including myself!) we settled for her second best option – a Rapunzel party! Hooray!

How to plan the perfect Rapunzel party

Costumes

We bought Grace’s Rapunzel dress from Florence and Fred through Tesco online. For Joshua’s Flynn Rider costume we used a waistcoat already in the wardrobe by Stella McCartney Kids and combined with tan coloured jeans.

Games

Go to your hardware store and buy some yellow braided rope to cut into equal sections for Rapunzel’s hair. Wrap double-sided tape round the top and a different coloured ribbon around each piece to give to the children. Now draw a picture of Rapunzel’s castle with a big window and and get a scarf for blindfolding and hey presto you have all you need for your ‘pin the hair on the castle’ game!

We did a great Princess treasure hunt game which the children loved and kept them busy for a good 15 minutes of the party. We bought gold coins to collect along the way which they exchanged for sweeties at the end of the hunt!

Traditional party favourites including musical statues, musical bumps and pass the parcel.

Decorations

You will need plenty of pink balloons and party hats, Rapunzel paper plates, table clothes, plastic cups and napkins and candles for the cake!

Music

If you haven’t already don’t forget to download the Tangled soundtrack for background music during tea!

Before the party put together some child friendly dance music for disco dancing and party games.

Food

We went for the usual mix of kiddy favourites such as marmite, cheese and jam triangle sandwiches, carrot and cucumber sticks with houmous dip, crisps, strawberries and sweet treats such as chocolate crispies.

As Grace has a wheat free diet we made sure we had plenty of treats for her too including two birthday cakes (a pink princess one the candles and for her guests) and a small wheat free chocolate cake for the birthday girl!

It maybe worth checking with the parents of your child’s party guests if they have any special dietary requirements when planning the food. When sending the party invitations would be perfect time.

Finally don’t forget sweeties to give out to the children after games and for pass the parcel.

Party Bags

We ordered Rapunzel party bags from Party Delights and filled with toy rings, brightly coloured necklaces, pink bubble wands with pretty ribbon, balloons, a few sweets and or course the obligatory birthday cake!
